Think about this phrase:

Everybody ends up somewhere in life.  A few people end up somewhere on purpose.

What do you think that means? (Don’t rush past this, take a moment.)

Think about it:

Proverbs 29:18 – Where there is no vision, the people are unrestrainedBut happy is he who keeps the law.

Vision is very important to our lives! Without vision we may go somewhere that we never wanted to go.  With vision we can end up somewhere awesome.  How does vision help direct our lives and help us end up somewhere on purpose?

Make it personal:

Vision is born when you become consumed with tension between what is and what could or should be.  Right now you are somewhere in your relationships, somewhere in your finances, somewhere in your school work, somewhere in your relationship with God, and somewhere emotionally.  Vision comes when you see where you are, and desire where you could be.

Think about each of the following:  Write down (yes get some paper and pen) where you hope to be in 1 year, 10 years, and 20 years when it comes to each category. Also, write down where you hope you are not going to be in each category.

  • Relationships (dating and family)
  • Finances
  • School/Job
  • Relationship with God
  • Emotionally

When you envision where you want to be, is it different than where you are now? (yes or no)

If it is different, what do you think the steps are to getting to your vision? (Be ready to discuss this with your group).

Is there anything you are doing that might be taking you away from the vision?
