You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self…to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, -Ephesians 4:22-24
What are some problems that happen when we don’t put off our “old self” and former ways of life?
What does it do to our witness to others?
Though everyone may not be ready to share today, sharing sins that you struggle with is an important way key to victory and it can encourage others when they go through the same thing.
If you can share: What sin seems to be a stronghold in your life?
What has your struggle against this sin been like?
4 weapons to tearing down strongholds
- Convinced of the truth
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God – 2 Corinthians 10:5
Why is knowing the truth about your stronghold important?
Discuss each other’s strongholds and what lies might be involved?
- Captive thoughts
and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. – 2 Corinthians 10:5
Why is it so important to take our thoughts captive?
What does it mean to make them obedient to Christ?
What would it look like to take thoughts captive in your area of strongholds?
- Confess sins to each other
Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. -James 5:16
Why is this important?
Why don’t we do it more?
- Commit to whatever, however, wherever, whenever, and with whoever
Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed. -Proverbs 16:3
When it comes to your stronghold:
- When do you tend to do it the most?
- Where do you tend to do it the most?
- Are you with anyone? Who?
- How? (how do you get access? What encourages you?)
What big things could you do to help you overcome?
