Have you ever noticed you talk differently around different people? Why do you think that is?
What are some weird things you have seen or heard people do when they pray?
Why do so many people start talking weird when they pray?
Why do we tend to make prayer something other than talking to God about what we are doing together?
Read
When Jesus taught how to pray he gave us an example of how what to say. Though we don’t need to recite it word for word when we pray, it is a great guideline. Read Jesus’ example of prayer
“This, then, is how you should pray:”‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’ -Matthew 6:9-13
Think it Through
Let’s break down the prayer into parts and think about how those parts apply to you.
- Is there an area of your life you hope to see God’s will done?
- What would it look like for you to ask for daily bread?
- Is there anything you need to ask for forgiveness for? Anyone you need to forgive?
- How often do you pray about your temptations? What difficulties do you need to be delivered from?
When you take time to pray, do you ever have trouble knowing what to pray about?
How can you use the Lord’s prayer to help you pray?
